Using a crockpot (also known as a slow cooker) is not only easy on your schedule, it's easy on your wallet, too.
Busy moms know a crockpot is the key to saving time and money, not to mention eating healthy. There’s no limit to the meals a crockpot can churn out. Here are a few simple recipes that require nothing more than a little morning preparation.
Beef Stroganoff
You will need:
- 1 lb cubed beef stew meat
- 1 can (10.75 oz) condensed golden mushroom soup
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup water
- 4 oz cream cheese
Preparation:
Combine the meat, soup, onion, Worcestershire sauce and water in crockpot. Cook on low for 8 hours or on high for about 5 hours. Stir in cream cheese just prior to serving.
Pepper Steak
You will need:
- 2 lbs beef sirloin, cut into 2-inch strips
- 3 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 cube beef bouillon
- 1/4 cup hot water
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 2 large green bell peppers, roughly chopped
- 1 can (14.5 oz) stewed tomatoes (with liquid)
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp white sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- garlic powder to taste
Preparation:
- Sprinkle strips of sirloin with garlic powder and brown in a large skillet with vegetable oil over medium heat. Transfer to crockpot.
- In a small bowl, mix bouillon cube with hot water until dissolved. Add cornstarch and mix well until dissolved; pour into crockpot. Stir in onion, green peppers, stewed tomatoes, soy sauce, sugar, and salt. Cover and cook on low from 6 to 8 hours, or on high for 3 to 4 hours..
Barbecued Ribs
You will need:
- 4 lbs pork baby back ribs
- 2 cups ketchup
- 1 cup chili sauce
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 4 tbsp vinegar
- 2 tsp dried oregano
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- dash hot sauce
- salt and pepper to taste
Preparation:
- Preheat oven to 400F (200C). Season ribs with salt and pepper and place ina shallow baking pan. Brown in oven for 15 minutes, turn, and brown for another 15 minutes. Drain fat.
- In a medium bowl, create a sauce by mixing together ketchup, chilli sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, oregano, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and salt and pepper.
- Place ribs in slow cooker and pour sauce over ribs. Turn to coat. Cover and cook on low setting for 6 to 8 hours or until ribs are tender.
Turkey Chili
You will need:
- 2 cans (10 oz) turkey meat, drained
- 2 cans (30 oz) kidney beans
- 2 cans (29 oz) Italian-style stewed tomatoes
- 2 pkgs(2.5 oz) chili seasoning mix
- 1 can (4 oz) green chili peppers
- 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 onion, diced
- 1 cup water
Preparation:
Combine turkey, beans, tomatoes, chili seasoning, chili peppers, tomato sauce, onion, and water in a crockpot. Cook on low for 3 to 4 hours. Serve hot.
